Where everybody knows your name

In Boston, nice place. I've not visited the Cheers bar yet but I have been getting into my baseball (surprise surprise) and seeing more old stuff. Apparently Boston got rich because of "Puritan work ethic" and definitely not the slave trade. Hmmm. It's also the real birthplace of the nation (sorry, Philadelphia).

Anyway want to watch James Earl Jones read part of a children's story? Well now you can, here. It's not very good but as the great man said, "I find your lack of faith disturbing."

There are (at least) two Cheers bars in Boston, Tony. One which was used for the front in the titles, but that's all, and another place that's a theme place built as a reproduction of the interior set.

Yeah and I didn't go to either. Walked past the replica one but it looked shit.

What an opportunity missed. Woody might have been there, or Diane, or Rebecca, or Carla, or Norm (my alter ego), or good old Cliff Clavin. Cliff would have told you where to go next. Such a knowledgeable man!

Oh, it's ok in a very touristy kind of way - but Boston has better to offer. If you really wanted to do a pilgrimage, better to go to Newbury Comics on Rodeo Drive where the goddess Aimee Mann used to work. And as for bars, I thought the Boston brewpubs were pretty good. I even found a couple that did a decent porter (though I had to let it sit for a while to warm up... silly Americans chilling beer..)
